Exploring Intimacy in The Presence of Children.

[Tweet “Mumzibah says: Private things are better left for privacies.”]

It’s a No-No from Mumzibah, here is why I say so. If you are more of an audio-listening personality, click here to listen to me on my podcast on this topic.

It’s generally not advisable to engage in intimate activities with your spouse while your children are in the same room, even if you believe they are asleep or unaware.

Children are often more perceptive than we give them credit for, and they may become aware of what’s happening, which could lead to confusion, discomfort, or anxiety.

Additionally, it’s essential to create boundaries and privacy within the family unit to foster a healthy environment for everyone.

Sharing intimate moments with your spouse is an important aspect of a relationship, but it’s best done in private, away from the presence of children.

If you and your spouse feel the need for intimacy while your children are around, consider finding alternative times or places, such as waiting until they are asleep or arranging for childcare or private time away from home.

Open communication with your spouse about your needs and concerns regarding intimacy is also crucial for maintaining a strong and healthy relationship.

WHAT IS THE REASON FOR  NOT DOING SO?

There are several reasons why it’s generally not advisable to engage in intimate activities with your spouse while your children are in the same room:

Respect for privacy: Children deserve to have their privacy respected, just as adults do. Engaging in intimate activities in their presence can violate their sense of privacy and make them feel uncomfortable.

Confusion and discomfort: Children may not fully understand what they are witnessing, but they can still sense that something is happening that they don’t fully comprehend. This can lead to confusion, discomfort, and potentially feelings of anxiety or insecurity.

Modeling appropriate behavior: Parents serve as role models for their children, and engaging in intimate activities in front of them can send the wrong message about appropriate behavior and boundaries in relationships.

Impact on parent-child relationship: Engaging in intimate activities in front of children can blur the lines of the parent-child relationship and undermine the authority and respect that children have for their parents.

Potential psychological impact: Witnessing intimate activities between parents can have a lasting psychological impact on children, potentially affecting their views on relationships, intimacy, and appropriate behavior in adulthood.

Risk of discovery: Even if you believe your children are asleep or unaware, there is always a risk that they could wake up or become aware of what’s happening, leading to embarrassment or confusion for everyone involved.

INCEST: it could lead to incest or sexual practices between siblings, especially when both parents are not around. I heard about this from one of my counseling sessions.

Overall, it’s important to prioritize the well-being and comfort of your children and to model healthy boundaries and behavior in your relationships with your spouse. This often means finding private moments for intimacy away from the presence of children.

INTIMACY IS PRIVATE AND PRIVACIES ARE PRIVATE THINGS THAT OUGHT TO REMAIN SO.
