Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa, a former Presidential candidate of the disbanded National Republic Convention (NRC) in the 1993 annulled election, has died. After a brief illness, the elder statesman died in the early hours of Monday, January 3, 2022, at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano.
Magaji Galadima (Kachallan Kano), a close associate of the deceased, reported his death on Facebook. “Allahu akbar, we eventually lost Alh. Bashir Tofa,” Mr. Galadima added. May Allah bestow eternal rest on him.”
Tofa ran in and lost a presidential election against late Chief Mashood Abiola, which General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida later invalidated. The lawmaker was rumored to have died last year, but a family acquaintance shot off the rumors said he was gravely ill.
According to Islamic customs, the business magnate will be laid to rest today.
